Presentation Evening Awards

On December 5th 2013 the squadron had it’s annual presentation evening at The Royal British Legion. This evening was open to cadets and their family members who all attended to watch their children or grandchildren achieve some amazing awards.

To begin with the staff introduced themselves and explained what there roles were on the squadron. They then proceeded to the presentations which consisted of Flt Sgt Ventola achieving the best attendance on the squadron for 2013, Sgt Gask receiving the award for the best NCO of the year and Sgt Glassford was awarded with the best shot on the squadron for her achievements in target shooting. … Read the rest

On the 2nd February 5 cadets from Birstall Squadron made their way down to Glenfield Squadron for their second Nijmegen training walk. The morning started off early with the 2 flights starting the 20mile march ahead of them. Birstall’s Got Talent!

On the 13th February the cadets of 1947 Birstall Squadron took part in a competition to see who had the best talent in the squadron.

Cdt Pancholi, bravely, opened the show with a hilarious stand up comedy sketch. He was then followed by Cdt Fox who played the guitar and sang to ‘I would walk 500 miles’ with the backing singers of the NCOs, After Cdt Bywater played some energetic beats on the drums Cdt Stodd then blew us away with ‘Hey Brother’ by Avicci on the keyboard and then on the drums to a version he recorded on the keyboard.… Read the rest

1947 cadets brave the elements

On Sunday the 9th February, 7 cadets from 1947 (Birstall) Squadron braved the elements to participate in the Wing Cross Country Tournament 2014.

The tournament entails cadets from across the midlands to compete in a 5km run for the prestigious trophy and points for their respective squadron. Runners from each age category were separated by 10 minute intervals and run (or jog) a set course around RAF Wittering.

Despite being extremely windy the squadron showed up in force with our best runners, they all made a fantastic effort with 2 cadets coming 4th and 5th respectively in their races. Well done to you all!!… Read the rest
